Packing Light For That Next Trip

Packing for that next trip doesn't need to be a daunting task.  Although, with the world's climate gone
mad, it makes packing only the necessities a tad more challenging.  With that said, it can be done without
breaking your back and carrying four seasons worth of clothes.  Here's some ideas from other, well
seasoned WJ travellers who wanted to share their tips with all our readers.

  • Start off making a list of "must take" items.  This will help you to remember necessary items and
eliminate over-packing ~ Arlene, Calgary, Canada.

  • Wear your heaviest clothes to travel in ~ Faye, Boston, USA.

  • Pants with zip-off legs are great.  They can look stylish enough to wear at any time, plus have the
versatility to give you two items instead of one.  If you take two pairs, you might only need one
pair of legs that will zip onto both pairs of shorts.  Microfibre long sleeve shirts that are light weight
and wash easily and dry quickly are a life saver ~ Bianca, Argentina.

  • Travel with small quantities of shampoo, moisturizer, soap, first-aid products, etc.  It's always fun
to visit the shops in the place you're travelling to and try out their products.  Also, if you travel
with a family size amount of all these items, there won't be any room for anything else in your
    luggage ~ Janie, Melbourne, Australia.

  • Put your toiletries into ziplock bags instead of using a heavier cloth bag.  It's easier to see what's in
each bag, plus it protects your clothes if leaks occur and it cuts down on the weight ~ Mary-Anne,
    Florida, USA.

  • Coordinate your colors and clothing items so that many options work for a few outfits.  Layering
lightweight garments works out great when the temperature you're leaving is much different
than the one you're going to ~ Alicia, Rome, Italy.

  • If you're flying, do your best only to take carry-on luggage.  Too many bags are lost by the airlines
everyday, some never recovered.  And, if you do loose your luggage it is terribly inconvenient and
time consuming to replace what is missing and deal with the airlines ~ Victoria, Portsmouth, UK.

  • NEVER pack valuables in checked luggage.  Bags go missing and you can't put a lock on your
checked bags anymore.  Expect that if you pack your jewellery and digital camera in your checked
bag that it will be gone when you get to your destination.  Now, does that put things in a better
    perspective?  ~ Monique, Lyon, France.

  • If you're flying make sure you don't have loose change in your pockets, metal belt buckles on your
outfit or are wearing too much jewellery.  They all can set off the metal detectors and slow you
down going through security ~ Annabelle, England.

  • Try not to wear an under-wire bra when flying, unless you enjoy strange women giving you a pat-
    down ~ Peggy, Colorado, USA.
