Real Irish Soda Bread!
Serves: 6-8
You will need:
- 4 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
- 1 - 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375F
- In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking soda,
baking powder - make sure the soda is distributed evenly.
- Whisk egg and add to buttermilk - mix well.
- Pour melted butter and buttermilk/egg mixture into dry
ingredients and stir well.
- Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and knead for about 20
seconds - don't over knead or you'll make the bread tough.
- Form dough into a round and place on lightly greased baking
sheet - or place on parchment paper lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 45 minutes.
- Make in advance of when you want to serve it and let it sit
covered with foil.
