THINGS TO DO & SEE IN PARIS.

ICE SKATING ~ If you head to the Eiffel Tower you will find an ice rink on the first
observation deck, 150 feet up, open through Wednesday February 1, 2006 at 11 p.m.  If
you're just there for the sights, enjoy the adjacent bar that serves up mulled wine.  Don't
bother to take your own ice skates, they're not allowed.   Another option is to visit the free
rinks at Hôtel de Ville and at the foot of the Montparnasse Tower, both sponsored by the City
of Paris.  Skate rental is 5 euros ($6).  The one at Hôtel de Ville is the most spacious and
open until 10pm on weeknights and midnight on weekends, through February 26, 2006.

HOP ON HOP OFF BUSES ~ There are two companies offering similar routes, one has
yellow buses, the other red buses.  Double decker open air buses that you can hop on and
off whenever you want.  Cost is approximately 25 Euro for a full day.  You will see them all
around the city centre and they go to all the main sites.  A good way to get around Paris and
see the sights while listening to a audio tour in your own language.

LA SAMARITAINE DEPARTMENT STORE ~ The top floor gives the best views of the city roof
tops.  On the banks of the river Seine and Pont Neuf in 1st Arrondisement.

SACRE COEUR ~ The Basilica of the Sacred heart has a guest house that is open to the
public.  55 rooms, spartan furnishings but comfortable, and has a strict 10:30pm curfew!  12
Euro per person, 5 Euro for breakfast (we suggest you go to a cafe instead).  Email replies
take about a week so give yourself lots of time and be patient.  Address: Ephrem on Rue du
Chevalier-de-la-Barre, Paris.   Tel: (33) 1 5341 8909.

BASTILLE DAY ~ July 14 every year.  Celebrations throughout the country and especially
around the Champs Elysee in Paris.

BUY STAMPS ~ At La Poste and Tabacs.

SHOPPING WITH A SWEET TWIST ~ Walk down a side street off the Place de la Madeleine
to La Maison du Miel (the House of Honey), a small boutique that serves up only honey.
There are more than 20 different honey varieties and you can taste whatever you like.  The
order for tasting honey is to start with lighter colored honey and move to the darker colors.
If you have a particular malady, or feel a bug coming on, the staff at La Maison du Miel can
suggest the honey to cure your ills.   A daily spoonful of Sarrasin honey, with the consistency
of molasses keeps colds and flus away.   Also, pay attention to the floor in the shop...

Address: La Maison du Miel, 24 rue Vignon, 75009 Paris, Tel: 01.47.42.26.70, Métro:
Madeleine.
