TIPS FOR BEING IN THE DESERT Drink fluid that will help replenish the sodium and electrolytes you lose during activities (such as a sports drink). Avoid drinking much alcohol or soft drinks. Always travel with water in your car, enough for everyone for the entire day. A water pack (Camelbak) will help you take small frequent drinks along the trail, keeping you better hydrated than a bottle in your backpack.
