ROME
Personalized walking, biking, taxi or scooter tours by a woman who has lived her entire life in Rome.
A Friend In Rome.

If you are interested in art or architecture, Il Duomo in Florence and Vatican City (in Rome of course) are
not to be missed.  I'd also check out the Boboli Gardens and the Rucellai Palace (a photographic museum)
in Florence.  By Michelle, Seattle, Washington.

In Rome, don't of course forget the Colosseum (and the often overlooked, but nevertheless excellent,
Roman Forum just next to it) and the Trevi Fountain.  By Heidi, Munich, Germany.

Make reservations for the museums in Florence to avoid the lines. Your hotel should offer to do this for
you. The Borghese Gallery in Rome (reservations required) is an amazing private museum.  It's not as
overwhelming as the Vatican Museum and because admission is limited to certain number of people per
entry time, much more enjoyable.  I have yet to meet anyone that was disappointed in the Borghese
Gallery.
By Melissa, Toronto, Canada.

In Rome, I'd also recommend the MUSEI CAPITOLINI, in Campidoglio: roman statues, pinacoteque, and
the statue of Marco Aurelio.   Take a tour in Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps), don't forget to leave a coin
in Fontana di Trevi and see the Quirinale, the residence of the Italian President.  By Davina, La Rochelle,
France.

Have a look at Piazza Navona and Piazza Barberini (if you read Angels and Demons, you should know
these places).  Of course, don't miss the Vatican (S. Peter Church) and the Vatican Museums.
www.reserver.it - Compare price and make your reservation in Italy: bed and breakfast and hotels in
Rome, Naples, Florence, Venice, Ischia.

By Wilma, Glasgow, Scotland.

When you visit the Trevi Fountain you have to throw a coin over your shoulder - this will ensure you will
one day return to Rome.  I can't remember the rest of the tradition, but I think it goes something like if
you throw 2 coins over you will fall in love with an Italian, and 3 coins you will marry an Italian?
Someone correct me if they know the correct version!   Try to visit first things in the morning, ideally not
during high season - it will be absolutely swarming with tourists, getting photos is tricky.   By Suzanne in
Netherlands.

Rome is on my must visit list for this year.
Jet2.com are flying their from April I think from Leeds and
Bradford.
By Bernice in York, England.

Generally speaking, accommodation is expensive in Rome. My wife and I rented an apartment for a
month on Via Dei Serpenti right next to the coliseum.  Awesome street but we checked the hotels on it out
of curiosity and they were pricey. This was in September 2001.  By David, Southampton, England.
