Shopping for handicrafts and souvenirs in Szentendre, Hungary

We would rather be shopping for handicrafts and souvenirs in Szentendre, Hungary!

Take a 30-minute (19 km) drive north from Budapest and find the artist's colony of
Szentendre (Saint Andrew), a small riverside town along the Danube. A day of
shopping at great prices can be found, without the hustle and bustle of being in the
large and sprawling capital city of Budapest. If you're not driving, the local train (HEV)
will take you on a 40-minute ride to this charming town.

If museums and galleries are more to your liking, Szentendre has a countless number
to offer, including the famous Kovacs Margit Museum.

This town with a population of approximately 20,000 inhabitants feels like a step back
to medieval times, with its beautiful Baroque-style churches, ornate iron work and
white-washed buildings with thatched roofs.

In the mood for some authentic Hungarian food? Then you won't be disappointed with
the choices in Szentendre - there are more than two-dozen restaurants, cafe's and
confectionery stores to tantilize your tastebuds.

Now back to shopping... this is the place to visit for all those souvenirs you want to
take home from Hungary and at much cheaper prices (up to 50% less) than what we
found in Budapest; leather goods; Pashmina scarves and shawls; paprika - sweet or
spicy; Hungarian pottery; hand-carved wooden boxes and toys; national dolls;
embroidered tablecloths, linens and clothing; Hungarian wine and spirits.

Tip: make sure you wander the cobble-stoned streets and scour the shops before
making a purchase, as prices will vary from shop to shop for the same item and if you
buy at the first place you see you may kick yourself later.
