While there can never be a truly 'safe' holiday destination for single female travellers, there are plenty of places which are not considered a problem for females travelling alone. Always make sure you inform several people where you are going and leave your contact details with them. Prepare photocopies of your travel documents and passport before you depart and ensure you have organised appropriate travel insurance. Don't leave your luggage unattended at any point and keep your jewellery to a minimum. Always be aware of your surroundings and don't go anywhere you don't feel safe. Ask the locals for advice on where to go and not go and be aware when out at night alone. Look after yourself and your belongings at all times and you will be able to relax and enjoy yourself. The following places are some of the safest holiday spots for females travelling alone. Canada - If it's wilderness, space and tranquillity you're after then look no further than Canada. With ample opportunities for hiking, climbing and mountain-biking the Canadian Rockies are a top destination for adrenaline junkies. A far less violent nation than its southern neighbour, Canada is a safe and easy country for single females to travel around. It has numerous interesting cities like Halifax, Montreal, North Vancouver and Toronto to explore as well as extremely impressive nature which is fantastic for outdoor activities such as skiing, rafting, hiking and fishing. With its wide and diverse culture, astonishing natural beauty and warm hospitality and people, you can't help but feel safe and happy while travelling in Canada. Iceland - While not the cheapest destination in the world, Iceland offers a whole host of natural wonders, including volcanoes, geysers and thermal waters such as the geothermal spa pool of the Blue Lagoon. Nightlife in the capital Reykjavik is lively and abundant with bustling bars and kicking clubs. Stunning scenery and wilderness, fantastic seafood and fish cuisine, long summer days and friendly, welcoming people make Iceland a superb and safe destination for the single female traveller. Australia - Scoring high for its laidback, friendly people and vast natural beauty, Oz is a fantastic destination for the single female traveller. Geared up for single travellers whether male or female, Australia is a country where you will not stand out by being alone and it is easy to meet and get to know people while there. Locals are helpful and happy to give advice to travellers. Interesting cities such as Sydney, Perth, Darwin, Cairns, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide all offer good accommodation and plenty of fun things to do. Inland, Ayres Rock is an awesome sight, while the beaches of the Gold Coast are full of bronzed surfers. SCUBA dive or snorkel on the magnificent and colourful Great Barrier Reef or admire the grand architecture of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and world famous Opera House. France - With its many varied coastlines and beaches, magnificent mountains of the Alps and the Pyrenees, rolling countryside littered with chateaus and beautiful historic towns and cities to explore you will be spoilt for choice while travelling in France. Single females will find they are no more gawped at than if they were in company. The French are used to seeing single females travelling or checking in to accommodation and it does not attract unwanted attention. This civilised European country has good public transportation and reasonably priced accommodation. Whether it's a quiet, relaxing break you are after or a lively and interesting time, France has it all to offer in a relatively safe environment. Mexico - While the northern towns which border the USA are known to be dangerous, the rest of Mexico is a fascinating and beautiful country to explore. With exquisite colonial places such as Merida, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Morelia, Zacatecas, Aquascalientes and Queretaro to visit and feel safe while walking the streets, taking a bite to eat and shopping. There are numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites worth discovering throughout the country including the magnificent Maya ruins in the south. Puerto Vallarta is a fabulous place with a delightful downtown and stunning beaches. Cheap holidays in Cancun are plentiful and the town is a great place to base yourself while exploring the neighbouring historical sites or simply relaxing on the beach and dancing in the evenings. Mexico is relatively cheap even for a 5 star hotel, however there are plenty of cheaper, clean and safe places to stay. Mexico City is less safe for a single female traveller or any foreigner at all, so avoid if possible. |
