During our visit we walked from the castle to the Old Town, during which time our English-speaking guide
explained that Emperor Heinrich III founded the city in the 11th century as a base for his campaigns in
Bohemia. After visiting Our Lady's Church, built in the 14th century, in the Main Market Square of the Old
Town, we enjoyed people-watching whilst browsing and shopping for souvenirs made by craftsmen in the
local areas. It was very easy to fill our shopping bag with sweets, gingerbread (Lebkuchen), and small
pottery items.

Nuremberg Germany Market Square | Our Lady's Church Nurnberg

Reich Party Rally Grounds | Hitler Zepplin Field | Nazis | Nuremberg
Palace of Justice Nurnberg | Nuremberg Trials | Top Sights Germany
A four-hour sightseeing bus and
walking-tour of the second largest Bavarian
city of Nuremberg in Germany, left WJ
longing for a much longer visit in this city
packed full of history and culture.
Our guide also stood with us outside the Palace of Justice, the historic home to the Nuremberg Trials, and
pointed out the exact windows of the building where the trials took place. We found it really a shame that
such a beautiful city had such a strong tie to the Nazi party movement... but, maybe that's part of what
intrigued us to visit in the first place!

So, next time you're in Germany make sure that Nuremberg (German: Nurnberg) is a stopping off point for a
day or two - you won't be disappointed and will learn much about the history and culture of this fascinating
and welcoming Bavarian city.

Happy Travels!

On the outskirts of the city, our guide easily grabbed and held our attention at the Reich Party Rally
Grounds, where we were led onto the Zeppelin grounds where Hitler had held his Nazi party rallies. The
description given by our guide of the events that were held on this ground was equally interesting,
bone-chilling and disturbing. It was hard to imagine how so many people could follow and be controlled by
the rantings of such a lunatic as Hitler.
