We would rather be exploring Mesa Verde! We would rather be visiting Mesa Verde National Park in the south-western corner of Colorado, USA! Located near the Four Corners - Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico - this park of 81 square miles (211 square km) is home to ancient ruins of buildings from the time of the Anasazi people. Some of the dwellings are situated within caves and on cliffs and thought to date back as far as 1200 A.D. The Cliff Palace is the most well-known and largest of the dwellings - with 150 rooms and 25 outside areas. When approaching Mesa Verde by car from either north or south, the large green plateau doesn't give any clues at first glance as to what lies at the other end. Drive into the park, up the steep and windy 15 mile road for about 35 minutes and finally arrive at the visitor center. Admission is approximately $10-$15 and good for seven days. Plan on a minimum of at least a full day to explore this park and spend time in the visitors center and at Chapin Mesa Archeological Museum - another 6 miles from the visitor center. It is possible to camp overnight in the park, find gas and supplies, enjoy the restaurants and plenty of hiking trails will keep you active. Lodging is available at Far View Lodge inside the park.
