Things To Do At Melk, Austria We would rather be visiting the city of Melk in the Wachau Valley of Austria! The city of Melk, situated along the river Danube, is well-known for the massive baroque Benedictine Melk Abbey (Stift Melk), which has been home to a school since the 12th century and is also home to an extensive medieval manuscript collection. http://www.stiftmelk.at/englisch/index.html The bluff on which Melk Abbey sits provides visitors with splendid views of the Wachau valley and river Danube. A short, down-hill walk from the abbey and the Hauptplatz (town square) and Hauptstrasse (main street) of Melk (with buildings from the middle ages), are reached. It is here, in the main area that it is possible to tempt the taste buds with Austrian delicacies such as chocolates with apricot, mouth-watering cakes and pastries, or spend time shopping for the perfect souvenir. This very scenic city is one not to be missed on a trip to Austria. Happy Travels! Viv and Jill AKA: WJ View videos at: www.wavejourneywomen.blogspot.com |
