We would rather be exploring Collioure! We would rather be hanging out in Collioure, located in the Languedoc-Roussillion region of France! This amazingly picturesque and tiny community is nestled at the foot of the Pyrenees and situated along the Mediterranean only 26 km (15 miles) from Spain. Viv first discovered Collioure by chance in 1987 - not knowing at that time what the name of the village was, but that it was relatively close to Perpignan in the direction of Spain. On a future visit to France in 1999, Viv did some exploring and investigating and found out the name of this unforgettable village that had inspired Matisse, Picasso and many other artists so many years ago. In 2003, Jill had her first experience with Collioure and immediately fell in love with the colorful fishing village. Collioure is an ideal place to stay and explore the coastline and surrounding towns and villages. It is easy to access by car or train and is on the route to Barcelona. A charming, relaxing village with narrow streets, plenty of cafes and restaurants, great weather, terrific light for the artist/photographer in an area chock full of history. Things to do in Collioure: Visit the wine caves and sample some of the regions excellent grape juice; hike in the surrounding hills; visit the restored olive mill, an easy 5 minute walk will get you to the working mill; enjoy anchovies fresh from the Med; relax at one of the wonderful cafes; wander through the village and take photos galore; visit the castle; take a look at the church that juts out into the bay - the tower acts as a lighthouse; walk the wall that acts as a barrier from the sea; watch the locals play boules - maybe they will ask you to join in. Take the train to Barcelona in approximately 2.5 hours or Perpignan in 30 minutes. TGV runs from Paris to Perpignan and a local train can be used to Collioure. www.collioure.com Happy Travels!
