We would rather be in France's Basque country! We would rather be hiking through Basque country at the foot of the French Pyrenees! Basque country is actually located in both France and Spain with the Pyrenees in the midst of it all. The spectacular scenery in this part of France is especially lush and green; the people lively and friendly; the cuisine is unique and delicious; and the Basque cheeses made from the milk of the black-faced Manech sheep will leave any connoisseur craving more. WJ's favorite Basque cheese is Pyrenees Brebis - a pressed cheese made from sheep's milk and aged 4-6 months. Some of WJ's favorite French Basque towns and villages are: Ostabat; Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port; Bayonne; Biarritz; Saint-Jean-de-Luz; Saint Palais.
