The Road to Hana: Touristy as it sounds, it is fabulous and well worth it. We hit the road at
7:00am and returned after 8:00pm.  If daylight savings time wasn’t an issue it could easily
have been a 16 hour day or longer.

Hokey as it sounds, you really must buy the CD narration of the stops and must sees along
the way. Because so many of them are off the beaten path you will not find them on your
own.  Buy the CD and Video, $20.00 at the Shell station near the intersection of Routes 380
and 36 (the road to Hana).

We drive through Pa'Ia, past the Ho’okipa Beach Park, Maui’s most popular windsurfing and
surfing beach. I frown because Mama’s Fishhouse (highly recommended restaurant) is here
and I knew we wouldn’t make it back.

The CD narrator refers to the Green Vertical Mile Markers on the right side of the road, so
you can prepare to stop if you desire.
One of the most amazing discoveries at the beginning was the
Rainbow Eucalyptus trees. Oh my, they look as though children
were let go with a Crayon Box to paint the trunks. So beautiful
and ethereal, fabulous!
We hiked the Waikamoi
Nature Trail, a short 25
minute stop at most.

I smiled at a touching
humorous sign.
Kauamahina State Park provides restrooms and
beautiful ocean vista’s. Driving on through
Honomanu Bay-very scenic with no stops until you
reach the top where a pull out provides photo
opportunities.

Next up is the Ke’Anae Arboretum which provides
most of the plants found on the island marked for
identification, hiking trails with streams for dipping
and a bird sanctuary.
It’s a pay to play stop, and we chose to save it for another visit because we could easily
spend 2 to 3 hours in this one spot.
