Your Journey Starts Here!
water at Cocoa Beach Florida
Trips to Orlando don’t usually include the beach – unless the beach is small, constructed
by people and connected to one of the major amusement parks. Sure, the parks provide
plenty of pastimes. But, it’s Florida – you need to see the ocean, feel the sand gently
give under your feet and relax to the sounds of the waves.
On your next trip to Orlando, add some sun,
sand and adventure with a short and sweet
escape to Cocoa Beach. Just one hour away,
Cocoa Beach allows you to take a traditional trip
to the Orlando parks – and still enjoy all that the
Florida beaches have to offer. The drive is a
straight shot right from the Orlando
International Airport, east on Florida 528, and
ends with crossing over a scenic blue stretch of
the Intercoastal Waterways.
An enjoyable jump from Orlando in summer or winter, Cocoa Beach sees average high
temperatures of 71 and 72 degrees in January and February, which can mean long sleeves
and jackets, but can also have warm days for play in the water and sand. Summertime
brings the usual tropical Florida days – tempered more than the inner regions by the
coastal breezes.
Taking Off for Adventures

Part of the “Space Coast,” this strip of coastline brings adventure to women of all ages.
Families with children or women traveling on business will find the one-hour drive from
Orlando well worth it. In the same week that you see Mickey and Goofy – or the inside of
an Orlando conference hotel – you can also get up close to a dolphin that arches out of
the water by your kayak, passing with a soft puff from its blowspout. Gentle endangered
manatee can also be found nearly year round at Cocoa Beach and nearby Merritt Island.
On recent trips to the area, my friend and I spotted a dolphin while kayaking in January in
Cocoa Beach, and a manatee and several dolphins in February at Merritt Island. You’ll also
enjoy the dozens of colorful birdlife that call from the waterway banks and shores. These
reminders of the wonders of nature made the trips well worth it to us, as we enjoyed our
quick escape from Orlando.
For a leisurely educational nature tour, sign up
for a two-hour kayak trip with Cocoa Beach
Kayaking. Experienced guides, such as Cinnamon
Lepore, take paddlers through wide waterways,
lined by the area’s thick vegetation and home to
thousands of birds and other wildlife. The
kayaking excursion includes detailed descriptions
that beat any classroom science lecture. Also,
learn about the interactions between
development and tourism in the area with
environmental protection information from your
kayak at Cocoa Beach Florida
guide – something that any visitor can appreciate.
For a more adventuresome paddling trip with less discussion and more quiet enjoyment of
nature, Bill from Adventure Kayak takes paddlers through the twists and tunnels of the
mangroves of the Thousand Islands. With Bill, you can choose a sit-in kayak for greater
stability and security – or a sit-on-top kayak for improved maneuverability and speed.
Both types serve kayakers well but offer different advantages. This is important, as Bill’s
trips live up to the “adventure” in his company’s name, and kayakers need a boat in
which they can feel comfortable.
During a two-hour morning or afternoon outing, kayaks shimmy through very narrow
mangrove tunnels that Bill knows as well as the hallways in his home. In and out of the
tunnels, kayakers tuck their paddles tightly alongside the boat and glide through the
more narrow passageways, under sun-filtering canopies of branches, arriving back into
sunshine at the other end. A few swift strokes of the paddle later, and Bill guides his
group into another beautiful tunnel – that combines the quiet peacefulness of the water
with the excitement of adventure. Experienced paddlers can request a challenging trip
with twists and turns packed around every mangrove corner. Additionally, longer kayaking
trips are available from all of the kayak excursion providers.
