Where Are We?
Viv and Jill are enjoying a hot summer in beautiful Central Oregon, USA. With lots of golfing, hiking, canoeing and spending time at music events in the area, it is turning out to be a very busy month.
WJ recently returned from a fabulous Alaskan Cruise up the Inside Passage! R Family Vacations chartered the Norwegian Star from Norwegian Cruise Lines and delivered a fabulous week of entertainment, gorgeous scenery, perfect weather and a wonderful environment for ALL families to enjoy.
We enjoyed amazing entertainment by Rosie O'Donnell, Kathy Griffin, Gavin Creel, Cyndi Lauper, Sharon Gless, Audra McDonald, Nancy Opel, Liz Calloway, Seth Rudetsky, Esera Tuaolo, Tipping The Velvet, Jill Sobule, Elvira Kurt, Kaitlin Colombo, Jason Stuart and many more.
The gossip on the "Stars" is: Cyndi Lauper (singer) got drunk and obnoxious (rumor has it, but we didn't personally witness it); Rosie O'Donnell (Comedian and R Family Vacations Founder) was crying in her suite on the 14th deck when we got hit by a storm on one of the last nights - she was getting tossed around more than the rest of us who had cabins in the bowels of the ship; Audra McDonald (4 time Tony winner) is beautiful through and through and has an amazing voice; Sharon Gless (Cagney & Lacey) spent most of her time in the casino playing slots and was very approachable; Nancy Opel (Evita) was a joy and seemed to be loving the entire cruise; Liz Calloway (star of Baby) and her son can't wait until next year's cruise; Melissa Etheridge (singer), Tammy and the kids were on board but not very visible this year - although they did make it to the Chocoholic Buffet!
The R Family Vacation team sure knows how to put on a cruise! We would recommend their cruises and look forward to vacationing with them again in the near future.
The weather on the entire trip was perfect, although some may say that they thought it was "The Perfect Storm" during the night on the sail from Ketchikan to Victoria, British Columbia. The ship encountered very rough seas and 18 foot swells. In Rosie O'Donnell's words, "it became the vomitorium". As the ship heaved across the ocean for three hours, so did the passengers!

Riding New Zealand, the most beautiful end of the world! TOWANDA Woman Tina Hartung reports from one of their Motorcycle Tours
On an immaculate day in paradise we pick up the hired motorcycles in Christchurch, New Zealand’s Garden City. Six women from all over the world have joined TOWANDA women on this tour: Pat and Terry from the United States, Shirley from “Ozzy” (as New Zealanders call Australia), Petra from Switzerland and Barb and Hilde from Germany.
We cruise out of town along the windy Peninsula road. The sea sparkles in vibrant colours on the left and the rim of an extinct volcano creates the skyline on our right. I smile in anticipation. I like the first day on tour: to see on the faces of the others how this little country at the end of the world with its fairy-tale like scenery just blows them away. We always take it easy on this first day.

Fun Stuff
Trivia Question: What bicycle trail takes you through Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary?
Answer: The Danube Cycleway, the longest dedicated bike path in the world. Cycle 1357km (848 miles) from Donaueschingen in Germany all the way to Budapest, Hungary.
Travel Tips: Taxis in Panama City: Never order one from your hotel. Hotel taxis charge much more than a street taxis - as much as $8 for a ride that in a street taxi might cost you a dollar. If you're staying at a downtown hotel, ignore their offers to call a taxi for you. Make your way down to the street where you'll never have to wait more than a few minutes to hail one on your own.
Classifieds: Buy an RV, condos for sale by owner, find a Realtor, purchase artwork and much more...
Contests: Congratulations to our contest winners! Natasha Ruben of Indiana won a Kodak Digital camera in the Spring Photo Contest. Amy Greeson of North Carolina won first place winner of the Golf Contest and received an autographed Kraft/Nabisco Championship golf cap. WAVE Journey's always got a contest going on!
Cool Websites: If you are planning a trip or presently travelling and need to know your travel rights, you will want to take a look at the Consumer Travel Rights Center. Be in the know of all your rights for airline, cruise, car, rail, hotel and tour travel.
Cool Webcams: See Mont Blanc in Chamonix, France on this panoramic live webcam.
Recipe Feature: Zesty Lemon Scallops & Shrimp with Linguine! Or how about a refreshing Seafood Gazpacho....
Kitchen Quick Tips: Do you buy fresh basil? If so, do you want to ensure it doesn't wilt and turn black after just a couple of days? Then here's a quick tip for you - do not put the basil in the fridge. Leave it on the kitchen counter in a ziplock plastic bag and blow air into the bag. Can last up to two weeks, just keep blowing air into the bag on a daily basis.
New Photos: Take a look at the latest reader photos. Golfing in Scotland, summer in Central Oregon, cruising in Alaska.... Send us your favorite shots and we'll add them to the site too.

Travellers' Tales
Susan's Alaska Dog Sled Adventure
We depart to take the bus to the helicopter place at about 6:00 Juneau time (10:00pm at home)...last helicopters out that evening. They show us a safety video about boarding the helicopter and walking on the ice/snow, etc. We are fitted for our ice boots (worn over our own shoes) and told of the order we would board the helicopter. Ellen and Emma were in the front with the pilot and Jack and I sat behind the pilot. He instructed us about the headphones and how to use them and we were OFF! On the whole, we were a very quiet group. I think we were so overwhelmed with the sights we didn't think to talk or ask questions. It was amazing. Pretty soon the green hills turned into rocky mountains covered in snow. We basically flew up the face of the Mendenhall Glacier.

Ann's European Adventure ~ Nice to Florence
Having arrived at our hotel in Nice (" Les Ciggies" at 16, rue Dalpozzo), we were shown to our room with a bathroom. Located on the main floor towards the back of the hotel, it was nice and quiet (our bathroom was twice the size of our Paris hotel), and tastefully tiled with a large tub. We freshened up and then went out to explore our surroundings, breathing in the balmy air that enhanced all its beautiful perfumes.
The hotel receptionist had given us a local map and suggested a good place to visit for our evening meal (we took her advice for both evenings). The place was called " Old Town." It all happened here!!!
