All the kitchen gadgets you can imagine, along with a wonderful selection of wines. Also offering cooking classes. www.allysonskitchen.com - The Shops at the Old Mill District, Bend, Oregon. Tel: 541-749-9974 Staccato at the Firehall WJ spent New Year's Eve 2007 enjoying a scrumptious five-course tasting menu presented by Staccato's very talented executive chef, James Malone. Offering an extensive wine list with which our server was very familiar. Dishes we recommend are: bruschetta, fritto misto, gnocchi, Caesar salad, chicken masala, wild boar pappardelle, cannoli and the "Chocolate Bar". www.staccatosfirehall.com - 5 NW Minnesota, Suite 101, Bend, Oregon. Tel: 541-312-3100 Jackalope Grill Chef Tim Garland and his wife Kathy have a remarkable restaurant. The location is a little off the beaten track, but once you dine here you'll be sure to come back. Reasonable prices and good portion sizes; an excellent and extensive wine list; prompt and knowledgeable service; delectable, mouth-watering food with excellent presentation are just a few of the reasons why we are looking forward to returning to Jackalope Grill. Kathy's Tiramisu is without a doubt "the best" we've tasted anywhere. WJ devoured the complimentary fresh baked bread. When you go, you must try: Dungeness Crab Stuffed Mushroom Caps (fantastic); Crisp Bibb Lettuce; Filet Mignon - pan seared eight ounce filet of premium Angus beef (melts in your mouth). Served with a classic brandy and green peppercorn sauce and mashed potatoes; and hopefully they will have their grilled True Cod entree available - unbelievably good. www.jackalopegrill.com - 1245 SE Third Avenue, Bend, Oregon. Tel: 541-318-8435 Fireside Red American Tapas Lounge - Permanently Closed as of May 2009 Opening March 3, 2008 - WJ had the opportunity to sample some of Fireside Red's creations at their soft-opening. The views alone from this restaurant will keep you coming back, as will the expansive deck for good-weather dining. www.firesidered.com - 803 SW Industrial Way, Suite 202, Bend, Oregon. Tel: 541-306-3121 Victorian Cafe If a spicy, Bloody Mary is your thing, you're in for a treat at "The Vic". Breakfast and lunch are their claim to fame and they do it right. Wonderful omelettes and plenty of choices for Eggs Benedict - especially good is the Blue Crab Eggs Benedict. Our only complaint was that once the burgers were thrown on the grill at lunchtime, the restaurant venting system didn't adequately exhaust all the grease smells. 1404 NW Galveston Avenue, Bend, Oregon. Tel: 541-382-6411 McKay's Cottage Open for breakfast and lunch. Great Mimosas for only $4.50. Tried and recommend the wonderfully tasty, Croissant-Style French Toast and the Taos Benedict. Expect to wait for a table on weekends, but well worth it! Home baked pastries, cinnamon buns, muffins and scones are also popular. www.themckaycottage.com - 62910 O B Riley Road, Bend, Oregon. Tel: 541-383-2697 The Original Pancake House WJ eats breakfast here at least a couple of times a month. Obviously, the food must be great and service prompt and friendly or we wouldn't keep going back. Waffles, pancakes, French toast, omelettes, eggs of any kind and much more will take care of your breakfast cravings. They use real whipping cream for their drip coffee - really great cup of Java! Large portion sizes; excellent quality and taste; reasonably priced menu. www.originalpancakehouse.com - 1025 Donovan Street, Bend, Oregon. Tel: 541-317-0380 Alpenglow Cafe Another breakfast and lunch cafe that does a great job. The reasonably-priced pancakes, omelettes, coffee cake, side of potatoes and huervos rancheros are all excellent. Another restaurant that has a venting problem - resulting in having to do a load of laundry after dining there. www.alpenglowcafe.com - 1133 NW Wall Street, Bend, Oregon. Tel: 541-383-7676 Cafe Yumm! Open for lunch and dinner. Lots of vegetarian options, bowls, wraps, soup, salads and sandwiches to choose from. Great quality, good size portions, reasonably priced and pleasant atmosphere. Recommend the following Yumm! Bowls: Original, Jazzy, Yumm! Baby and Edamame. www.cafeyumm.com - The Shops at the Old Mill District, Bend. Tel: 541-318-9866 Typhoon! As far as we're concerned, this is the best place for Thai food in Bend. Great flavors, reasonably priced and adequate portions, along with a more upscale ambiance than you typically find in Thai restaurants makes for a memorable experience at Typhoon. Excellent fresh rolls, Tom Kai Gai soup, green and Panang curry, cashew chicken and WJ raves about their eggplant lovers dish. www.typhoonrestaurants.com - 550 NW Franklin Avenue, Suite 148, Bend, Oregon Tel: 541.385-8885 |
