Fellow Passengers
European Waterways gear their cruises toward North American and British tourists who have
discerning tastes, a sense of adventure and want a complete immersion into the region in
which they are travelling.
During our cruise, passenger ages ranged from early 40's to late 70's and great fun was had
by all - people arrived as strangers and departed as friends. Typically, passengers come to
find they have common interests and share similar tastes for travel.
Anjodi's English-speaking crew was also familiar with other languages - French, Spanish,
Italian. This helped the American and Canadian passengers (whose foreign language skills
were lacking) feel at ease, while those who wanted to practice their French were able to do
so with guide Laurent (a native Frenchman) and captain Julian (a Brit fluent in French).
Our fellow passengers came from various backgrounds, but all shared a love of travel,
adventure, fine wine, great food and enriching experiences. The more active in the group
could work up an appetite for the next meal by walking or bicycling along the tow path as the
barge cruised at a leisurely speed of 4 miles per hour. Others spent cruising time just
enjoying the canal scenery from the sun deck, reading a book, sipping a glass of wine or
warming up with a rum-spiked hot chocolate.
The week's itinerary provided us with daily shore excursions that were enjoyed by all. Visits
to UNESCO Heritage Sites, local markets, historic villages and towns, along with wine tasting
at a chateau gave a variety of opportunities to explore and experience something new.
With only four cabins and passenger capacity of eight, Anjodi would make a great option for
a family reunion or group of friends to charter.
