Viv's Review:
This 21-inch carry-on wheeled computer upright is perfect for a quick overnight or a week-long
getaway. For the smart packer it would even be totally suitable for much longer jaunts of over
a month. High Sierra has packed many great features into the lightweight AT404 bag (weighing
in at around 8 pounds) that it will surprise you how much can be carried. The zippered pouch
that opens up to reveal a mesh water bottle holder can keep your hands free for dealing with
tickets and carrying your coffee.
This bag is expandable, giving additional room for the return trip so you have space for packing
those souvenirs and gifts you just had to pick-up during your travels. If you do end up
expanding the bag (expands up to 2.5 inches), it may need to be checked-in for USA domestic
flights. I found the AT404 fit perfectly in the overhead bin on my domestic flights with American
Airlines when it was filled to the gills - but not expanded.
There is a large front pocket with an internal organizer that is wonderful for keeping pens,
business cards, notepads, PDA's, cell phones and airline tickets secure.
A smaller pocket at the top of the bag is ideal for an ipod or mp3 player and there is even a slot
for the wire of the ear-buds.
The larger pocket at the top front is a perfect place to hold sunglasses and a paperback novel.
There is even a padded compartment for a laptop - it will hold most with a screen up to 17
inches.
The internal compartment for clothes is roomy and was large enough for me to pack:
~ 2 pairs of shoes
~ 2 pairs of pants - 1 cotton and 1 jeans
~ 2 silk shirts
~ 2 cotton polo shirts
~ 1 light weight sweater
~ rain jacket
~ 3 pairs of socks
~ 3 pairs of underwear
~ 1 pair of shorts
~ 1 bathing suit
~ 1 cotton t-shirt
~ 1 quick-dry t-shirt
~ a laptop - WJ's is a 15.4"
~ and a bunch of gadget cords for the camera, computers, etc...
WJ Note:
Most USA domestic flights allow up to a combined 45" for carry-on luggage, many International
flights will allow up to 50" - but check with the airline you will be flying on for their carry-on
restrictions. They are all different and you don't want to get caught with the wrong size bag
that you need to repack, or take your valuables out of, because it doesn't meet the airlines
restrictions and needs to be checked.
Bottom Line:
The inline skate wheels and the telescoping handle on this bag make it very easy and reliable
for getting around airports, hotels, train stations. This is a strong bag that gives confidence
that it will last the test of time, while providing all the space and organization needed on a
business trip or leisure getaway. So, from now on, whenever WJ takes a flight anywhere... for
a weekend or 6+ weeks... we'll be packing the AT404.
