Viv's Gear: Quick Notes on what worked and what didn't...

-
High Sierra Hawk 45 Backpack. Worked perfectly. Even managed to use it as a carry-on for
flights. Love the sleeping bag compartment for keeping items separate.
-
Chinook Thermo Travelite 41F Sleeping Bag = 2.2lb. (bottom of page 16). Ideal for 3-season
use.
-
Keen Targhee II Waterproof Mid-Hiking Boots. Thumbs down for two reasons. Once the
temps hit 75 F, my feet were on fire - did not breathe as promised. After they got wet twice,
the waterproofing didn't work so well. Unfortunate, as they were extremely comfy otherwise.
-
Dahlgren Socks - (1 mid-weight, 1 light-weight). No blisters and dried quickly. Great socks.
-
Fox River Socks - (1 light crew, 1 liner). As usual, Fox River Socks rock! Did what they were
supposed to and worked great in my other shoes.
-
Polarmax boy short. Love, love, love! Comfy and easy to care for. Wash and wear at its best.
-
Polarmax Cami. Wash and wear. Comfortable.
-
GoLite Footwear Slide Lite casual shoe. Fantastic! Great everyday/everywhere travel shoe.
- Flip-flops - lightest and cheapest I could find. Used them everywhere - from hostals to hotels.
-
Contourwear vest. Very handy for travel because of all the pockets and lightweight material.
-
Contourwear Bermuda shorts. Quick dry and comfy.
-
Contourwear pants x 2 (1 navy, 1 black). Comfy, easy to pack, wash 'n wear, use for hiking
or going out to dinner.
-
Contourwear jacket (black). Used it as a shirt and a jacket. Lightweight, basic. Sleeves are
too long and with zippers in the cuffs there's no fixing that without a lot of effort.
-
Columbia Long-Sleeve Shirt. Fabulous! Need more of these in my closet.
- Short-sleeve micro-fibre polo shirts x 2. Easy care and comfortable.
- Super lightweight cotton pants. Wore them for travel days and hiking days.
Dried within 1 hour when hung outside. Stretched out bit too much.
- Swim short. Glad I had them.
-
Marmot Precip-Jacket. Excellent top layer. Great for windy & rainy days.
-
Panasonic Lumix Camera + extra battery + extra memory cards. Terrific!!!
- Ball cap. Won't find me without one.
-
Buff Headband. Always travels with me.
-
Buff Original. Great for any kind of trip/travel or activity.
- Sarong. So useful for so many things.
-
Petzl Tikka headlamp. Use mine all the time at home, so not going away without it. Never
know when the power goes out. Ideal for a trip to the loo at 1 AM.
-
MSR PackTowl. Excellent! Dried me and then dried quickly. Packs small.
-
Rain poncho. Used it mainly as a base layer on beds in hostels. So glad I
had it for the one day when the heavens opened in Milano.
-
SealLine E-Case. Put all my receipts and paperwork in it and it kept me
relatively organized. On rainy days my electronics lived in it too - success!
-
iPod Touch - 4th Generation. Should have filled it with more music before
leaving, but wouldn't go anywhere without one.
-
Pacsafe Toursafe - Sling & Daypack. Turned out to be the ideal daypack for
this trip. Nice size. Everything was safe and secure. Great for travel.
-
RFID wallet - Pacsafe. No worries with this one.
-
HydroFlask water bottle. As always, worked perfectly when used for hot
and cold beverages of all kinds.
-
Freshette PUD. No worrying about nasty toilets for me.
-
Platypus Wine Preserver. What a beaut this was. Not that the wine lasted
more than a couple of days, but it did a great job of keeping it fresh.
-
Platypus Soft Bottle. So many uses and very handy for slipping into a jacket
or pant pocket.
-
Therm-a-Rest Seat Lite. Saved my tush and kept my pants clean on planes,
trains and automobiles.
Jill's Gear:

-
High Sierra Hawk 40 Backpack. Liked Airflo design of pack keeping it from resting directly on
my back and eliminating the sweaty-shirt syndrome.
-
Therm-a-Rest Ventra Down Comforter - 40F/4C = 2lb. Just like having my baby blanket with
me! Cozy and warm, easy leg in & leg out for thermal regulating.
-
Merrell Siren Waterproof Mid Leather boots. Still fit like a glove.
-
Pacsafe Cross-Body Pack. Allowed supreme confidence in strolling about knowing the secure
construction of this pack which held all my important stuff - passport, money, etc.
-
iPod Shuffle. Teeny tiny but with big sound.
-
HydroFlask water bottle. Don't leave home without one!
-
MSR Nano Towel. Actually used this as the perfect facecloth.
-
MSR Packtowl Ultralite. Better than a ShamWow for the body!
- Swim suit. Costco special = still going strong.
- Lightweight cotton shorts x 2. Held up fine, needed a belt as handwashing doesn't shrink
them back when they stretch out with days of use.
- Trousers x 2 - lightweight cotton. Same as with shorts.
-
Orvis Scrunch Pant Suit Set. Perfect set with easy packing, good looking and never needs
ironing.
- Micro-fibre t-shirts x 2. Practical component from a sleep shirt to layering for warmth.
- Sarong. Picture me poolside!
-
ExOfficio shirts x 2. Awesome shirts, love the zippered pockets & quick dry.
-
Columbia Long-Sleeve Shirt. My splash of color for the trip.
-
Polarmax boy short. Great for sleepwear.
-
Polarmax Cami. Great for sleepwear.
-
Dahlgren socks. My feet's best friend.
- R
ain poncho. Happy to say, didn't need it for rain, but used as a mattress cover in hostels.
-
Buff Headband. Everyday in every way: head; neck; wrist.
-
Petzl Tikka headlamp. Lightweight illumination.
- 1 Ball cap. Duh!
- 1 Visor. Double duh!
-
Merrell Encore Breeze shoes. Lightweight, stylish, great arch support. Casual to dressy.
- Flip-flops - lightest and cheapest available.
-
Marmot precip jacket.  Survived a monkey attack in Gibraltar. Enough said!
-
Platypus Soft Bottle. Stealth libations!
